Iffy article title. Many valid points.(Maya: Doomed on Mac OS X, Nov. 7, 2001)
It is worth noting that Alias' last Macintosh program – Alias Sketch! –
also died after briefly exciting some people. Pixar ported RenderMan toMac OS about six years ago and also let the product die. High-end 3-D does nothave a happy history on the Mac.

Maya for X has one chance of surviving – if the G5 delivers performance inthe ballpark of current rumors and SGI adopts it as their processor insteadof MIPS (also rumored), then Maya users will face a very real choice of IRIX
on G5 versus Mac OS X on G5. (Also note that Apple taking over SGI has beenrumored for a long time, and now that they look like they're converging on Power PC
and Unix there will be even more synergies.)

Having used both, I think a lot of folks might be looking to crossgrade toMac OS X on otherwise identical hardware.
