They're smacking their lips all over Phnom Penh in anticipation of that popular Cambodian delicacy: giant, egg-bearing crickets. The crickets, which are available only in December when the weather is cooler and the females are heavy laden, are popular both deep-fried and raw. They're snapped up in a hurry and fetch top dollar (or in this case, riel). Cambodians are equally fond of munching on other tasty treats from the insect world: ants, silkworms, water beetles and the pièce de resistance, giant hairy spiders.
