Subject: A Top-Secret, One-of-a-Kind Mac
I enjoyed the article "A Top-Secret, One-of-a-Kind Mac" (April 15, 2002).
However, as a female who started out in 1981 with an Apple II+, black and white TV for a monitor, no floppy disks (audio tape player instead), I object to this sentence:
"Every time you bring a nerd to the computer museum, their faces light up with memories," said Galen Brandt, Damer's partner. "You see grown men crying when they see some of these systems."
How about grown women also. Granted, there were not very many of us compared to men, but we were there and would also cry. Just reading the article brought back memories. I was trying to remember how many Apple II versions I had. I bought an original Mac and still have it in a closet. Went on from there. Right now I am writing this on my new Powerbook G4, using the mail program that comes with OS X (although I have Entourage for Mac OS X), sitting on my patio, connecting to the Internet through an AirPort network. Life is good.
