In your article " NPR Retreats, Link Stink Lingers ," June 28, 2002.
If only we had Cory Doctorow kicking up dust back in the days of David Siegel and his single pixel gif tricks. Now that was a danger to the Web.
If Cory thinks one lonely page on npr.org is going to do that much damage to the Internet as we know it, well, then I understand his continued abuse of this dead horse.
But, really, I don't think NPR is that powerful. They've never stopped us from linking to them, and we all know that they can't. We all linked to them before this fuss, and we'll all link to them long after. And now, thanks to Cory, they've said it's okay. Hooray!
I'm happy with the new policy. They've differentiated between linking and framing, and they've made it more clear what kind of links they don't want. Sure, they're still under the delusion that they have some semblance control over it, and you're right to point out that they don't. But lawyers always have illusions of control, and in theend, even they know they can't stop us.
I count this as a victory, and so should Cory Doctorow.
