Subject: Band Can't Sell Own Music on EBay
I am writing in response to the article "Band Can't Sell Own Music on EBay," October 24, 2002.
As an avid music fan and a proponent of Internet-based music trading from "friendly" bands such as Phish and Dave Matthews Band, this is truly disheartening.
Ebay can't seem to effectively stop the countless bootleggers selling copies of the aforementioned bands' works, and yet, in their infinite wisdom and seemingly infinite bureaucracy, they can prevent an independent artist from showing the good that eBay's system can provide artists.
Issuing blanket-searches for terms like "CD-R" serves no purpose whatsoever, except to further cloud the situation, and leaving the task up to the subjectivity of employees is even further proof of the failure of the system.
Here's hoping that negative press can pressure eBay into policies that will do some good for both established and independent artists.
