Sen. Paul Wellstone, the liberal Minnesota Democrat locked in a tight race for reelection, was killed Friday when his small plane crashed enroute to a campaign stop in northern Minnesota. Wellstone's wife and a daughter, along with three staffers and two pilots, were also killed, his office confirmed. Wellstone, 58, who championed health care and worker issues and opposed going to war with Iraq, was one of the most liberal members of the Senate.
