Subject: When a Free Download Isn't Free

This single-user-paid enterprise didn't have to be such a disaster ("When a Free Download Isn't Free," March 27, 2003). What one should look for are ISPs who charge a per gigabit flat rate. Superb.net, for example, has some sort of high-availability download server that you can rent space on. Cost is $135 per 50 Gb of traffic, which (if all my math is correct) translates to $675 for a 250 Gb block of traffic. Still a fair chunk of change, but a far cry from $15,000.
