Subject: Planning for the Next Cyberwar

After reading this article I have the impression that instead of watching a war, I will turn on my TV and see a game of Command & Conquer ("Planning for the Next Cyberwar," April 18, 2003).

If all these breakthroughs become a reality in the short term, what will happen to countries like my own (Argentina) who cannot afford these kinds of weapons? Are we going to become (or did we already??) the pet of a super-powered country?

Subject: Pale Riders Who Wear Black Hats

It seems to me that Dr. Reese needs to get a life ("Pale Riders Who Wear Black Hats," April 25, 2003). Perhaps he should go see the original Matrix movie, and look there – I seem to recall a hero by the name of Switch who had white hair, light skin and dressed in white.

For most any major Hollywood movie you could replace the word "albino" with "black, "Hispanic," "Arab" or "Asian" and the statement holds just as true. Why does Dr. Reese not take issue with these stereotypes?

That's just the way Hollywood makes movies – they're concerned that the audience isn't smart enough to know who the antagonist is, so they need to physically differentiate him/her from the hero.

Seriously, people, do we need more nukes ("Embattled Lab Unveils New Nukes," April 23, 2003)? I'm no pacifist, but I think being able to render this Earth lifeless 11 times over would be enough for most people. The only things the morons in charge of this country are doing is upping the ante in this "War on Terrorism."

Let's not play shot-for-shot with plutonium.

Maybe it’s just me, but I got a chuckle out of the last link on your home page under "Elsewhere Today."

It was the L.A. Times article entitled, "They Have a File on You," requiring you to register in order to read it.

Subject: ISPs Up the Ante in Spam Fight

Most people, myself included, consider any commercial solicitation spam ("ISPs Up the Ante in Spam Fight," April 25, 2003). And much as I get on the "do not call" lists from telemarketers to eliminate the junk phone calls, I want a way to ensure that I don't receive any commercial solicitations, unless it is a reply to an inquiry I specifically began.

You forgot a couple notable movies with albinos as the "bad guys" ("Pale Riders Who Wear Black Hats," April 25, 2003). Sharky's Machine (Burt Reynolds) and The Omega Man (Charlton Heston) both featured albinos as bad guys.
