Cease-Fire

Three key Palestinian groups -- Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Fatah -- agreed Wednesday to observe a three-month cessation of hostilities against Israel so that talks aimed at establishing a Palestinian state can begin. Israel insisted that attacks against its soldiers and civilians had to stop before any meaningful dialogue could begin. There was no immediate reaction from Tel Aviv.
