Slideshow: Magic Touch for Electronic Music?

A futuristic new tool could make it easier for electronic musicians to pump out the jams live. The easy-to-use Audiopad had Barcelona clubbers making music almost immediately. By Leander Kahney.

The Audiopad is projected on a special table equipped with radio sensors that track the position and movement of half a dozen plastic discs, or "pucks."

The controls are projected onto the table by a video projector mounted on the ceiling or on the table itself using a mirror. A PC running Linux controls the whole thing.
