This is Shabana Rehman, who is
justly famed as the "champion of
liberal Muslim women aspiring to a
Scandinavian lifestyle."
Shabana's a Pakistani-Norwegian twenty-something Muslim feminist stand-up comic.
She's got a website, too. In Norwegian,
of course.
I happened to be in Norway a few weeks ago,
and to my stunned amazement I actually met
Shabana Rehman at a conference. We ate
a Norwegian fish dinner and talked about
Bollywood movies. Not only does Shabana
speak Norwegian and Urdu – at least,
I think that was Urdu – but she's got better
English than most of us Texans.
Here's Shabana knocking back some
aquavit. I'm no photographer, so that flash
snapshot doesn't do her justice. It's
pretty well got got the Shabana Rehman
attitude, though.
