Former Apple CEO John Sculley has been named Honorary President of the Worldwide Newton Association.

Sculley was the marketing guy from Pepsi who grew Apple into the world's biggest PC maker in the mid-'90s, boosting annual revenues from a pissy $600 million to $8 billion.

The Newton was Sculley's baby. As the Newton Association's press release notes:

In (Sculley's) visionary book Odyssey, published in 1987, he described a new device called the Knowledge Navigator... a device which could access a large networked database of hypertext information and use software agents to assist searching through that information. (It) became the foundation for the Newton project.

... John Sculley eventually coined the expression "Personal Digital Assistant" and used it to refer to the Newton... Sculley kept Apple on the 'Newton track' for as long as he was CEO of the company, claiming that this was the future of computing.
