Laurie Duncan of CubeOwner just acquired a prototype Cube to add to her collection. The machine is enclosed in a black metal case, rather than translucent plastic. On her site, she says:

The newest addition to my personal Cube collection. I acquired it just last week (thanks John!). This rare Cube is fully functional with the exception of the power button (turns on fine from an Apple display and I will probably replace the power button assembly). The mystery speaker does not work under Panther, but I have not tested it under OS 9 yet. Since OS X didn't exist when this baby was born, there's a good chance it works under OS 9. It is clearly an odd assortment of parts, with dates ranging from March to June of 2000.
