My friend from Tokyo, Nobuyuki Hayashi, points me to Bird Electron, a boutique Mac peripheral manufacturer that sells all kinds of interesting gewgaws, like this iPod speaker made from a pair of film canisters.

"The guy at Bird Electron, he loves iPod and make a lot of experimental stuffs and sell them online," Nobuyuki told me by IM.

Other Bird Electron goods include fan-cooled laptop stands (handy for overheated PoweBooks), coolers for Airport base stations, and iPod speakers made from
Hyoutan, a traditional Japanese drinking vessel.

Unfortunatley, Bird's website notes the company doesn't ship overseas and will not reply to queries in English.
