I'm as upset about John Peel's passing as I was with Joe Strummer's death. Like a lot of music-mad Brits, I grew up listening to DJ John Peel. Me and my brothers listened to him in bed, late at night, on an early radio alarm clock with a sleep timer. He played everything that came in, including really rough demo tapes from a couple of crappy punk bands from our crappy home town (Telford). For us, it really put the dump on the map, and connected us to him.
Here's a fascinating compilation of John Peel obits and profiles, including scans of British newspaper front pages.
Also, here's a huge library of some of the music he played.
