One Toke Over the Line

One Toke Over the Line

Election Day isn't just about settling on a president for the next four years; the future of marijuana could be at stake here as well. Alaskans will vote on a measure, which, if passed, will legalize grass for those 21 and older. Two other states are voting on marijuana initiatives -- Oregon and Montana -- but Alaska's is the most far-reaching. And it's caught the eye of the Bush administration, which has dispatched officials to the wilderness to campaign against the measure. Proponents argue that by legalizing weed, the state can regulate it much as it does alcohol and make it easier to keep it away from young people. Whether true or not, it can't be any less effective than prohibition.
