An Australian Mac collector known as "danamania" went to great lengths to install Mac OS X on an old Centris 650.

To allow OS X to run on the 68K machine, danamania had to first install Linux, and then the PearPC Mac emulator on top of that.

Running 500 times slower than the Centris' 25-MHz CPU, the virtual machine is equivalent to a 0.05MHz G3, danamania reckons.

He hasn't exactly run any benchmarks yet. The initial Apple-logo boot screen took 1.5 hours to appear, and the full boot up will likely take an entire week. Danamania promises updates on significant events in coming days. I can hardly wait!

Next she plans to install OS X on a Mac II. "I expect to have this done by the time Longhorn ships," she writes.

Update: Apologies to danamania, who's a she, not a he, I'm told by several readers.
