Dryden, who entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with his bandmates from the Jefferson Airplane, died Tuesday of cancer following years of precarious health. Dryden, a nephew of Charlie Chaplin, joined the Airplane just as it rose to prominence as one of the seminal San Francisco acid rock bands, after being "discovered" playing the drums in a Hollywood strip club. He was the drummer on some of the Airplane's most famous albums, including Surrealistic Pillow and Crown of Creation.
