Making the Lowbrow Art Scene

I went to this. It was good. It was an interesting

scene and the art was good. You shoulda been there.

Man, the fine art from the Juxtapoz crowd is CHEAP,

unless you're Mark Ryden, and Mark Ryden paints

so well that his prices are perfectly reasonable.

I can't understand why speculators aren't swooping

around these Jux shows and just buying that stuff

up in job lots. It's a lot less demented than it looks.

Could be a tipping point here: I can imagine

some critic dropping by the Pasadena Museum

of California Art, seeing the WONDERTOONEL

show, and realizing that this Ryden stuff, with the

slabs of meat, sinister bunnies, mystical obfuscation and

severed Lincoln heads, is the letter-perfect

art form for the second Bush Administration.
