A foiled Sarin gas attack on Parliament
I'm trying to imagine the state of mind among
the planet's government elites after a successful
sarin gas attack on Parliament.
What would the election campaign look like if
half of Parliament were dead of sarin? "I'm campaigning on the anti-sarin gas ticket." Yeah, I guess you would be;
but where would you meet after you won?
"We plan to meet and do the public's
business henceforth in sealed, secret underground
chambers in undisclosed vicinities." I wonder if
those would be easier or harder to locate than
bin Laden.
People like to blame politicians for the
deaths of soldiers in battle, but what would
public sentiment look like if a whole
crowd of politicians were killed?
If the British Parliament were successfully crippled
by a sarin attack, how many other parliaments
would also be crippled by sarin within, say, the next year?
Suppose that, instead of the 300 improvised
mujihadeen bombs that went off in one day in Bangladesh
last week, they had been 300 simultaneous sarin bombs. What
would Bangladesh be like today?
How many people already know how to make
sarin, and how busy are they uploading their cookbooks
on terrorist websites?
Are their any demented religious fanatics really into destroying
civilization with crude homemade sarin?
Tokyo Chemical Attack Mastermind to Undergo Court-Ordered Psychiatric Evaluation
The Tokyo High Court has ordered Shoko Asahara, founder of the Aum Shinrikyo cult that carried out the sarin attack on Tokyoís subway system in 1995, to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine his fitness to be tried on appeal, the Associated Press reported Friday (see Global Security Newswire, March 21).
The court rejected a defense motion to suspend the case until Asaharaís mental condition improves, the Kyodo news agency reported (Associated Press/Ottawa Sun, Aug. 19).
