The number of hybrid and alternative fuel vehicle models has grown to 36 and another 29 vehicles are either scheduled for release or developed as concept cars, according to the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers.
The Alliance doesn't include Honda, so the list of 8 current and 13 planned hybrids is incomplete. Interestingly VW doesn't have any new diesels models on the list while there are four hydrogen internal combustion engines.
I'm doubtful that hydrogen ICEs will be successful, but by 2010 I'm guessing there will be at least 40 models of hybrids (including some that use diesel fuel), at least a dozen diesels, and a handful of natural gas vehicles. And since the price of regular gasoline has more than doubled in the last five years, $5 a gallon is probably being conservative.
