I just can't swing the plane fare, but I'd love to go to Singapore's first sex expo:
November 18-20
I think we Americans could learn a lot from exploring the sexual history – and present – of other cultures.
(I minored in ancient-to-middle-aged Western history and I enjoyed it very much, thanks to UC Davis professor S. Spyridakis, who taught us about families and women as well as male politicians. But I think most of us would remember our history classes a lot more clearly if they centered on regular people having sex instead of powerful men having war. Imagine the effect this might have on society ... )
If I could go, I'd pay particular attention to the Chinese sex showcase. Many Americans think of China as a rigid, repressed society. And yet China has a diverse sexual history, from educational scrolls presented to newlyweds on their wedding nights to genital worship to mothers passing on bedroom secrets to their daughters through erotic art.
If any of you manage to attend, write me (ginalynn at gmail dot com) and let me know how it goes!
