NEW DELHI: The surrender of the fourth accused Vijay Dhawan in the phone tapping case has embarrassed the Delhi police which till now had been referring to him as the mastermind. Dhawan, now it turns out, was only hired to get the letters authorising the telecom service provider forged, and the actual mastermind was Bhupinder, the owner of Metro detective agency earlier held by the police.
Vijay Dhawan, one of the four accused who had been absconding, surrendered before special cell officials late on Monday night. The reason behind the police's flip flop is not known, however some officers justified it saying they had only called him a tentative mastermind and not the mastermind.
"Bhupinder was the mastermind and he did it to earn some quick bucks," said Karnal Singh, Joint Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Delhi Police. Dhawan has been remanded to police custody for three days.
So now the story goes like this: (((uh-huh, tell me more))) Bhupinder, the owner of Metro Detective agency was the actual mastermind and he hired Vijay Dhawan to get the letters forged, Kuldeep to clear the forged letter at Reliance Infocomm and Anurag Singh to find a buyer for the audio CD of the conversation.
