Doom co-creator John Romero's been out of the spotlight since parting ways with Midway, splitting from the Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows project that he was pimping excitedly at the company's Vegas gala event a little less than a year ago.

Now, UK site Computer and Video Games has scored the exclusive scoop on Romero's next project: he's with a "super secret stealth" company doing a massively multiplayer online RPG.

According to Romero (who says he loves MMOs), the game he's working on is "very different from any other MMO for some special reasons." [...] "It's a lot of money, this is the most money I've ever spent on a game - in Gauntlet it was like $10 million, but this is much more," Romero revealed.

The 1up story on this points out that maybe it's for the best that Romero get in on the ground floor, considering his lingering bad feelings about working for Midway. Should be interesting to see how this game develops.
