So I received this morning, and watched this evening, the DVD video Metal Gear Saga Vol. 1. This is being given out to those who preorder Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence -- that's the revamped version of MGS3 in which I got totally, publically hustled at Tokyo Game Show.

I enjoyed watching the video, but I was a little disappointed with a few parts. It was, as promised, a slickly packaged documentary video about the Metal Gear series. But where I thought Kojima Productions was going to take advantage of the DVD format and produce a long-form work that really dove into the series' history, it ended up being like a slightly extended version of the now-mostly-defunct G4 program Icons, skimming over all the minor stuff in an effort just to cram in the big points. There was some stuff in there I didn't know already, but not much.

As I said -- it was well-done, and certainly for MGS fans it's worth watching as a prelude to the awesome package that Subsistence will undoubtedly be. I think you can still order it if you buy the game online...
