Shadow of the Colossus Team to Speak at GDC

Nobody seems to have picked up on this announcement yet, so I figured I should point it out. The post-mortem session on Shadow of the Colossus isn't gonna be by director Fumito Ueda and producer Kenji Kaido – it'll be by several other members of the team, who will effectively be making their public speaking debut at GDC.

Lead programmer Hajime Sugiyama guides the panel discussion with the lead game designer Junichi Hosono, and animators Masanobu Tanaka and Atsuko Fukuyama. The session begins by outlining the team’s philosophical approach to developing epic experiences, and expands to describe the overall development environment, with each panelist describing how that environment impacted his discipline. The panel then focuses on the character control technique, which enabled the “programming of emotion” in the game, and will also address the collision system they developed to bring their vision to life.

Ueda and Kaido will be there, too, but in the audience – and will do a Q&A session after the panel.
