Apple To Offer Free Computer Recycling in U.S.

...with the purchase of a new Mac from the online Apple Store or at a physical Apple retail store.

"Apple is committed to supporting our customers and protecting the environment throughout the entire product life cycle, from purchase through to retirement," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Now we are making it even easier for Apple's customers to safely and affordably recycle their used computers and iPods."

This fleshes out a takeback program initiated with the iPod awhile ago. Unlike with the iPod, there doesn't appear to be an associated discount credit offered for computer recycling, but then, iPods are a lot cheaper to recycle than ancient computers.
