Sprint announced its Family Locator service, which allows parents to pinpoint the location of a child using a mobile phone or PC. Parents can register up to four phone numbers; when they request the child’s location, it’s displayed on an interactive map and the child is notified via text message. Alerts can also be set to let a parent know when their child arrives a specific location. The Family Locator application works with 17 Sprint handsets, and the service can track 30 different Sprint and Nextel phones. Subscriptions are $10 a month and include unlimited location requests and 100 text messages to each registered phone.
