Indian opposition party leader Pramod Mahajan shot by brother
BOMBAY, India (AP) - Top Hindu nationalist leader Pramod Mahajan was shot and severely injured by his brother on Saturday in an attack that police said may have stemmed from a family dispute.†
Mahajan, the general secretary of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, was shot at least four times at his home in a posh high-rise apartment block in Bombay by his younger brother Pravin, police and doctors said.†
Pravin Mahajan's lawyer, Nandkumar Rajukar, was quoted as saying by NDTV television that Pravin had been suffering from "some mental disorder'' in recent months.†
He is "completely under depression, under mental trauma. He is not in a position to speak properly or tell exactly what exactly happened,'' Rajukar said on live television.†
The bullets perforated Pramod Mahajan's liver, pancreas and intestines, causing "a fair amount'' of blood loss, said Dr. †
