South African police seek DVDs in sex scandal involving minister

Durban, Mar 26 : South African police have warned those possessing the DVDs, showing a former provincial cabinet minister of Indian origin allegedly in compromising position with a woman who is not his wife, to hand them over or face prosecution.

"Our investigations are still continuing and a new charge of attempted extortion has been added to the distribution of the DVD", Police spokesperson in KwaZulu-Natal province, Superintendent Bala Naidoo said today.

"We have interviewed a number of people and we are making an appeal to anyone who is in possession of a DVDs to hand them over because they are part of evidence, should they fail to hand them over, they will be prosecuted," he said.

Narend Singh, a popular politician, resigned as Minister of Arts, Culture and Tourism after it was found that he allegedly had a sexual relationship with Rosanne Narandas, a Durban businesswoman, who is also of Indian origin.

Singh, who is a member of the Inkatha Freedom Party, is the father of two teenage children and married to his wife, Manitha, for 30 years.

Narandas, who is regarded as a socialite and glamorous, is the mother of two teenage children.

Since the release of the DVDs, Narandas has been hounded by the media but she has refused to give any interviews.

The Durban Sunday Tribune quoted her saying that she was fed up of the smear campaign against her.

After resigning from his post, Singh has refused to take any calls and his cell phone and those of his family have been switched off. (((
