*After her brilliant headfake in resigning her Congress seat,
Sonia Gandhi has been returned to power with a whacking
majority.
*The Congress Party, being in power, didn't do particularly
well, but the BJP were annihilated. The hard Left gained,
though the hardness of the Indian Left has been de-fanged
anyway, while the "secular front" has beaten the scandal-
wearied Hindutva crowd like a set of sacred drums.
Tamil actress Jayalalithaa, who loudly claimed she was being wiretapped, was thrown out of power. The wiretapping scandal was not even an electoral issue.
*The people have spoken: it's Commie technocrats up,
Hindu fundies out.
*And since the wiretapping-and-DVD crowd affected the
national balance of power and got away with it (almost)
scot-free, this next Congress ought to be lively.
