New stuff from The Roots

A new album by real-keepin'-it The Roots lands on August 29th but ?uestlove's not gonna wait. In a blogpost at his MySpace, he makes his feelings clear:

i dont believe in singles because radio and tv dont believe in us that much. so i am taking matters into my own hands.

take this shit now before def jam stops me.

eff the bullshit.....i worked too hard on this album to get fronted on.

this is hip hop damnit. some grassroots shit.

spread it.

take it.

go on now.

help a negro.

And then, of course, makes the song available. And not just for streaming - for you to download, in glorious 128kbps mp3.

It's called "It Don't Feel Right" and it feels more late 90s than mid-2000s ("Lose Control" this ain't). Still, there's no getting away from the whisker-swish of the jumbling samples, the appealing smush of ?uestlove's voice with that juicy backing. The lyrics are uplifting, exhilerating, yes "conscious" stuff - but how can you be frowny around something so good-natured. Just – dig. Thanks ?uest.
