Is the hard drive dead? Well, we doubt it. But Samsung's announcement of the world's first notebook to boast a 32GB embedded NAND flash solid state drive could have serious implications for the future of the hard drive in mobile devices. According to Samsung, the SSD reads 300% faster and writes 150% faster than normal hard drives. And, of course, it's really, really compact, which doesn't hurt. The drive will make its debut in the upcoming Q30, a 12.1-inch notebook PC, for about $3,700 in Korea in June. It will also be integrated into a new version of the Q1 UMPC at a price of $2,400.
