UMD's Bipolar Disorder

Next Gen wraps up an NPD report on the PSP and its UMD movie format. Strangely, although the ability of the device to play the mini movie discs is a strong selling point for PSP, current PSP owners do not actually technically plan on buying any:

The report states that the intent of owners to buy classic movies and TV shows on UMD is about three times the actual purchase rate, implying that there isn't enough compelling UMD content available to coax potential consumers to fully adopt the format.

I'm still waiting for those massive UMD sections in Virgin Megastore to get scaled back to something more reasonable. Should be any day now.
