Jaffe Sick of This Shit, Film at 11

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later: Game|Life guest blogger and God of War designer David Jaffe has returned from his lengthy self-imposed hiatus from the Interweb and updated his blog again. Only I'm not sure everyone is going to like hearing what he has to say:

Since God Of War, I have lost interest in the genre of single player action/adventure games. In fact, I’ve really lost interest in making any kind of game that does not fully and only embrace interactivity in the most purest sense.

I don’t want to tell stories with my games anymore.

Ohhhh shit. He's not kidding, either; the rest of the blog contains not a whit of backpedaling on this stance. As it turns out, Jaffe is having a blast creating his PSP game; he's reveling in the "joy" of "pure play."

Hey, I'm still really excited to see whatever the hell it is. And I am most certainly in favor of the pursuit of happiness: if creating God of War made Jaffe unhappy, and creating Project HL makes him happy, then more power to the guy.

I hope he'll understand my disappointment, though, considering that I felt GoW was one of the most powerful and evocative story-games ever made. I guess I have no right to ask him to suffer for my sake.
