The – video for "Idlewild Blue" a song from the upcoming new Outkast album/film soundtrack, Idlewild (trailer), has just appeared online at YouTube. As with much of Andre 3000's The Love Below, there's not really any rapping here - just a low-slung blues groove and some distorted harmonica. While it's certainly not "Hey Ya!" it's very compelling in its back-porch vibe, both still-and-humid and blissfully moving. On the other hand, I can't help but feel like I'm back in the mid-90s, listening to tunes by Imani Coppola or Elwood - a deep-fried country sample over simple beats.

But perhaps the best part is this comment by YouTube user "IIIIrvin":

You've got to be kidding. This is the most prominent social critique video out right now and you say it's "not bad but not great"? I beg to differ. This video has "term paper" written all over it. The subtle themes of self destruction/blissful ignorance, and a search for 'Higher Ground' are worthy of another look and perhaps a deeper analysis my friend.

I'm getting started on my thesis right now.
