Long before lime juice came into the picture, there was another way to keep scurvy at bay -- a New Zealand plant called "Cook's scurvy grass," named after Captain James Cook. (That's a painting of the cheerful chap on the right.)

Now, according to this story, ecologists have found a fresh bounty of the plant on a tiny island. It was previously thought to be close to extinction.

It's too bad this news didn't come exactly a month ago on Talk Like a Pirate Day. Arrr.
