Nassau County Legislators Consider New Game Law

Nassau County -- that's on Long Island, last I checked -- legislators will be voting November 1 on proposed legislation that will force game retailers to conspicuously display game rating information, and also offer customers written information about the ESRB's rating system. Said Democratic congressional candidate Dave Mejias:

"The rating level printed on the cover of the game is not enough. Requiring retailers to clearly post the ratings information will provide parents with all available information and allow them to better protect their children from the violent and gratuitous behavior displayed in many video games."

It would also establish video games as a special class of restricted media. Does there have to be a sign at the Stephen King section of the bookstore instructing people that the books contain scary violence?

I like the idea of giving parents information, but it shouldn't be done through legislation.
