The image shows a large church painting created in the 1513 by Gaudenzio Ferrari and on display for the last five centuries in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Varallo Sesia,
Italy. The fresco depicts the life of Jesus in 21 scenes, a nice scenic upgrade over one of the previous biggest-image champs, a 2.5-gigpixel aerial view of the Dutch city of Delft.

Art restoration and documentation firm Hal9000 created the image by combining 1,145 individual shots on a PC
outfitted with 16 gigabytes of RAM and 1.8-terabyte hard drive.
