Popular Hong-Kong based online games retailer Lik-Sang announced today that they will be going out of business thanks to recent lawsuits brought against the company by Sony:
Last week, Lik-Sang lost the case that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe had brought against the company in London's High Court. The court found that by selling and advertising imported PSP systems to the UK, Lik-Sang was in breach of Sony's intellectual property rights.
Ironically, Lik-Sang points out in the release, SCEE executives were some of their best customers:
I'll forgive them the tired who's-who construction, because I'm having trouble coming up with coherent sentences while my brain sputters in disbelief at this phenomenal bullshit. I'm not really that up on UK law, but is there any precedence for this? Did Sony actually have the law on their side, or is this merely a case of Sony's high-powered legal team stepping on the little-guy-in-the-right?
My favorite Hong Kong-based import retailer Play-Asia seems, for now, safe, even though I'm thinking of taking them to court for fucking up my Phoenix Wright 2 order.
