Microsoft has released version 11 of its homegrown media player. Windows Media Player 11 is finally out of beta and available for download right now from Microsoft.com.
Version 11 is the first significant redesign of the player in a couple of years, so this is a much-anticipated upgrade for faithful users. The new WMP features a tabbed interface for managing your library, burning CDs, listening to music and watching videos. There's also a baked-in music store called Urge – powered by MTV – that's proving to be a controversial addition to the software player.
Today's release is optimized for Windows XP, but it should also run on Windows Vista. Mac users, you can ignore this message – Microsoft's player is no longer developed for Apple hardware.
We'll have a full review soon!
