Windows-based VoIP users rejoice! An open Beta of Skype 3 began today, and you can download and install the client freely at the address below. Features new to the revised client include public chatrooms, click-to-call and Skypecasts.

The public chat system resembles IRC, with channel moderators able to perform administrative duties and assign permissions to chatroom visitors. Conversations can also be embedded in websites. Skypecasting is a lecture-hall mode, allowing dozens of callers to patch in to your conference calls on a moderated, ejectable (and listen-only) basis.
A user-interface redesign and general system-wide tweaking rounds out the upgrade. Watch this space for more on Skype in the coming days.
