Slate's Wii/Counterwii

Slate is divided on Wii. On the pro side, you've got sometimes-Wired-mag-contributor Chris Suellentrop:

The interactivity afforded by the Wii Remote should remind game makers that changing our identities, not following a story, is what attracts gamers to the shiny boxes under our televisions. We'll have to wait several more years to see what Sony and Microsoft can do with a
Wii-like controller (the PS3's Sixaxis doesn't compare). So, for now, the Wii is as real as virtual gets.

I love (and agree with) the implicit assumption that Sony and Microsoft will put Wii's direct pointing tech into their controllers in a few years. But then there's Eric Sofge's "Case Agaisnt the Wii". Suffice it to say that if this is the best case against Wii that can be mustered, the future looks pretty bright:

The Nintendo pointer felt less accurate than even the light guns used in antique games like Duck Hunt. Every time I sighted down the controller at the TV, the crosshairs were off-center.

Dot dot dot. Maybe -- and I'm just throwing this out there -- this didn't work because it's not a light gun? Why the hell would you sight down the controller? That's like me sighting down my mouse. Holy shit, I just tried it and it didn't line up with the cursor. Screw you, Logitech!
