Suspected Chemcial Leak Kills 3

Three squatters living in an abandoned chemical plant died mysteriously over the weekend in Gujarat, India. Though authorities were not able to concretely link the deaths to a chemical leak, there does not seem to be another viable explanation. The deaths bring up memories of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal where over 20,000 people died in a single gas leak almost 20 years ago.

Talking to ExpressNewsline, GPCB regional officer V R Gadge, who visited the site, said:
‘‘Prima facie evidence suggests lack of any gas leakage...even nohazardous waste was found. They died in quite mysterious circumstances.
Question of poisonous gas accumulation is also ruled out as no sewagedrainage passes through the unit area.’’
