I really get a kick out of the Barbe Bleu series of paintings by French artist Daniel Cacouault. For example, Bluebeard above: a cruel, massive head wobbling on top of a velvet-draped torso, pushing his tiny branch of a leg down upon the pleading skull of a gamine nymph. It might as well be my self-portrait. Or the orgy scene, in which bored French courtesans exhaustedly drowse on an aqua chaise-longue, arrayed from left to right from the youngest and prettiest to the fattest and most decadent. Which may as well be a portrait of my living room.
