Boston Globe: Grown-ups Texting Too

There's nothing like an internet-argot headline from an august, east-coast meatspace newspaper to bring Monday's headache into sharp focus. This morning, the Boston Globe does not disappoint, offering "Do u txt ur kdz?" Be thankful: it could have been leetspeak.

Anyhow, the article is about the fastest growing segment of the messaging and texting userbase: grown-ups. The last year has seen an explosion in use among parents, especially those wanting to get with it by abadoning all standards of literacy and starting every sentence with "OMG."

The Globe's tone is wry:

According to a texting tutorial released by Cingular Wireless and clinical psychologist Ruth Peters this summer, text messages are a way "to arm yourself with information and simultaneously raise your esteem in your children's eyes." But they also happen to be a good way for cellphone carriers to make money.
