Mozilla set "Gran Paradiso" loose to the world today. Gran Paradiso, apart from being a group of mountains in northern Italy, is the code-name for Firefox 3. The first alpha build of the browser is now available strictly for testing purposes. So, if you're a site developer or programmer, grab it. If you're a web surfer who actually likes his or her browser to work all the time, don't download this alpha.

The release notes tell us that Firefox 3 will incorporate the new Gecko 1.9 layout engine and the Cairo vector graphics library for all text rendering.

Here's some info and a fair warning from Mozilla's Firefox 3 team:

Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 is an early developer milestone for the next major version of Firefox that is being built on top of the next generation of Mozilla's layout engine, Gecko 1.9. Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 is being made available for testing purposes only, and is intended for web application developers and our testing community. Current users of Mozilla Firefox should not use Gran Paradiso Alpha 1.
