Those agonizing about whether to go with Sony's Blu-ray or Toshiba et al's HD-DVD
format may want to consider hackability, in which case HD-DVD seems to be the way to go.
A programmer who identifies himself as "muslix64" says he's already cracked AACS, the copy-protection system used by HD-DVD. He's created a working but admittedly touchy Java program call BackupHDDVD to rip content from movie discs.
Blu-ray also uses AACS but layers several other anti-copying widgets on top.
