The first take-home HIV test sees the light of day--in the U.K. That such tests were previously denied to patients is a mystery until you get a sense of the breathtaking nannying ever at play in British culture:

Home tests were banned because counselling was not on hand, but the 'Dr Thom' kit offers phone support if it does not give the all-clear. But Avert, a leading HIV/Aids charity, said patients worried they were infected should have an NHS test.
