She and her team weave together white cloth and fiberoptics on a traditional loom in various lengths and patterns, balancing the distribution of light throughout the design. For Tick, it's an exercise in experimentation. "We have no idea what we'll have until we pull the designs off the loom," said Tick. "But often, there's perfection in the irregularities."

. The dogs are outfitted with pollution sensors and all-terrain wheels. The students have set the dogs loose in locales from Brooklyn to Ireland to hunt for environmentally questionable materials. "It's about awareness of ecology and the environment," said Barbara Bloemink, curatorial director for Cooper-Hewitt.
